Favorite pins: January 2014

Welcome to a quick roundup of my favorite pins as of late!

The emotion this illustration carries is a beautiful thing. I love the thoughtful details – the movement of the woman’s hair to the way the dolphin’s weight is distributed, it actually looks like it is floating up and resting under her hand. The entire piece is calming & beautiful.
Definitely check Yaskina out, she is very talented!

Nereus New Year’s Card

Happy Thursday!

I was recently contacted by Nereus Worldwide to design their New Year’s Card to send out to their clients. Very exciting! They wanted a Pinterest -Etsy -Homemade feel to their cards, while representing their brand in a positive and professional way. I was supplied with a plethora of lovely inspirational images from Pinterest and Etsy, which got the ideas flowing immediately and I could not wait to get to work!

This was a dream come true… I love the creative energy that most Etsy inspired cards have and have always wanted to chance to create one of my own.

The Nereus team was lovely to work with – I had such a blast working on this project. Thanks Nereus!!

Lonely Freelancers Club: Refreshing & Overdue

David was one of my first friends here in Portland, OR. He is a Parkour coach, craftsman, and an avid lover of all things to do with letters, type, and calligraphy. He is in the middle of a 30 day personal lettering challenge right now – inspiring stuff! Dribbble just featured him on their blog & I am excited to feature him on my blog through an LFC!

Not sure what LFC is? Read this!

Enjoy these beauts of photos from our chat!

Exclusive Holiday Collection for Courtney Z Photography

I love the holidays & everything that comes along with them… spending extra time with your loved ones, baking endless amounts of cookies, eating endless amounts of cookies (let’s be honest), sending and receiving holiday cards, bundling up with blankets and watching Christmas movies on the couch, hot tea… ahh, I could go on forever.

The holidays force us to slow down a bit from our regular busy life & that is a beautiful thing.

Do Something Scary & Trust Your Gut

I woke up this morning knowing my first hack day was upon me. I have been looking forward to this event for some time now, but this morning.. I just wasn’t feeling it. and I felt a couple different ways; Sick, worn out and not wanting to get out of bed. Wishing I was going to the talks that were happening during TechFestNW today instead of the hack day and overall conflicted on what to do.

Dear Mom

Dear Mom,

While I was listening to Nathan Barry during the Self-Publishing Hangout, he mentioned that when he has writers block – he writes to someone specifically. He literally writes “Dear [Persons Name],” and it helps him. Since then, I have adopted that idea and have found myself writing almost everything to you. I really enjoy it, mostly because it’s as if we are talking and sharing our days together. Since you passed 7 years ago – I’ve really missed you and as silly as this may sound, doing this makes me feel like we are hanging out in a way. So I have decided to devote a section of my blog to you, called “Dear Mom.” It won’t be every post I write, but some of them – Especially the ones I need a little help getting through.

Saying Thank You

saythankyou_jehnglynn

I have been thinking lately about where I am today and what it has taken for me to get here. Is it my own determination? Support from my friends & family? Inspiration from people I have met in my life? That one book I read? That one quote I saw on that one site? That album I listened to on repeat? You could argue each instance in my life as a whole, is what has brought me to where I am today. I would say, though, that I would not be where I am today without the people that have been in my life.

Following a dream, finding a path

followeddream960-02

I have had this dream since I first went to New York in 2009 that I wanted to live in a creative city, get really involved in the community, rent a small studio apartment, ditch my car, shop at the corner grocery store and take public transit everywhere. About six months ago I moved to Portland, Oregon and I feel like I am in am in the middle stages of exploring my dream… my dream of finding more focus, finding a path & ultimately finding success & fulfillment as a creative designer.

Let’s dive further into that, shall we?
